The Interview

I’m carrying this on from Nate Gunter’s Okay City blog. Basically, he asked me five questions and I had to answer them and post them on my blog. Here they are:

1) What would your best friend say is the worst thing about you?

Probably that I am scared of people or that I have little perseverance. Perhaps he might say I “mindfuck” things too much.

2) What would your worst enemy say is the best thing about you?

The sad thing is I don’t have any enemies, at least not that I know of. I hope any potential enemies might say that I am a good listener and that I give a fair hearing.

3) What are five albums you absolutely cannot live without? (I had to go to the music place).

My taste in music is so erratic that I don’t think I could pin down five seminal albums that I couldn’t possibly exist without. BUT, I will choose the five most interesting albums that I own and actually listen to.

Deaf Shepherd – Synergy (Scottish folk music played by actual Scots)
The Knife – Deep Cuts (Swedish Electronica)
Tryo – Mamagubida (French Leftist Reggae)
Flogging Molly – Drunken Lullabies (Irish Punk)
Brevada – This Too Shall Pass (Christian Rock)

I tend to like individual songs. iTunes has been great for me.

4) What’s the most encouraging thing that has happened to you this week?

I think it’s been a tie between two things: first, my new church in Greenville is a real church that takes the words of Scripture seriously. I’ve never been to a church like that. It’s amazing. Second, I found out the Greenville County library has free wireless, which doesn’t sound like much, but when you’re living on a really tight budget and you don’t have to pay $1.50 for a tea at the local coffee shop to use the internet, it’s a nice little perk.

5) What were five of your New Year’s resolutions? How’s that working out for you?

I don’t make New Year’s resolutions because I’ve never kept them in the past. However, I did make a few changes around the New Year. I am trying to eat less and more healthfully, which is easier now that I’m on my own. I decided to actually use the One Year Bible I bought sometime ago and start on January 1, but I forgot about it until like the 5th, so I’m playing catch-up. I’ve also decided to see if I can read a few books I’ve been meaning to read. I re-read a good portion of A History of the Reformation by Diarmaid McCullogh and finished reading The Cost of Discipleship by Bonhoeffer. I’m currently re-reading Brian McLaren and Tony Campolo’s Adventures in Missing the Point. I have recently started Stranger in a Strange Land and Slaughterhouse 5. Any of the ones I have read I would recommend. I’m wondering if The Cost of Discipleship kicked your butt. It kicked mine.

I hope I answered your questions well.

If you want to be interviewed, here are the rules (copied straight from Nathan’s blog):

1. Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me,” but only if you really mean it and will follow-through.

2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.

3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.

4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.

5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Bonhoeffer’s still kicking my butt - I’m not done with it yet. Reading MLK Jr.’s biography last week kinda set me behind on my resolution to read 52 books this year. ALREADY.
